With a heavy heart an artist picks up their pen, the record their souls, they sing, they share their heartfelt experiences, and when the time comes with an even heavier heart they put it down again and focus on something new. Art is funny that way. It is a fleeting moment that someone captures from out of the ether and they present to an audience with the hopes of sharing this experience so that others may find peace, love, commiseration, solace, comfort, joy, or just the awareness that something happened that is inexplicable and captured for as long as the art medium lasts. Sometimes audiences are lucky enough to be part of a wave, a movement or to capture the last glimpse of something beautiful. This is that moment.
Vagabond Mafia is saying farewell as a group to the creation of art and despite the name of the album it is hard to not beg the artists to hold off on a leave but even more difficult to know that more people weren’t afforded the opportunity to hear the melodies, lyrics and vibes they have shared from their lives. Although painful, they do leave their audience with great art. This group has consistently broken the norms of the state of New Mexico, the southwest and even the international music scene. They have created a multi-genre experience for their audiences are the production is filled with unique approaches to music, the use of voice and melody. There isn’t a bad track on the album and if you know of Vagabond Mafia you know that their personality shines through on each track and even though they leave us on this album they definitely will be leaving us on a high note.
