Understatement

“A discerning eye needs only a hint, and understatement leaves the imagination to leave its own elaboration.”

Being an independent artist in the State of NM is a difficult task. All independent artists have to contend with the maintstream music listeners taste and then of course how to expand into different fanbases and regions. These are not simple tasks but they are worthy. The first quality needed to expand outside the local, then regional and into the national and international region is to create quality work. This amongst many other steps are needed so working hard in this state and scene is an Understatement.

Paakman has been on a winning streak and has been hitting some great growth through consistency and quality music with notable names such Lazarus Cerea, Gee Reach, and Figie. His latest project Understatement sounds like New Mexico and has that southwest/state flavor. The production on Understatement has a varied mix of beats that are chill to high energy. There are some mellow beats and some G Funk style beats. Paakman is evolving in his approach and his music just keeps getting better with each record release.

The EP does well to highlight some additional artists but doesn’t rely on features to make the album marketable. The entire project already has a solid vibe and the features add extra voice to the record. The artists Paakman works with also compliment his approach instead of detracting from the style. They provide a balance to his cadence and flow, Playa Made and Witcha both have a style that makes them catchy and gives the audience a reason to replay the songs again and again.

You can definitely count on Paakman to continue to produce work that makes NM proud and provides listeners with something real and thoughtful. Paakman has content that approaches familiar topics with a different eye and the sound is welcome.
