We are Watching Aeon Primitive

Written by Sabrina Zamora

The Las Cruces based artist/group project “We are Watching” is a breath of fresh music in the sense of lyricism. This album was made specifically for those who appreciate words and lyrics that not only flow well, but are in depth. If you are a lover of words, you will appreciate this album the most. Each song has an introduction from a fellow NM artist which is an original idea that really can catch one’s attention (it might be the catchiest line featured on the album). I truly enjoyed that and one thing that did stick out was that I never heard a hook in any of the songs, which only makes it harder for the listener to distinguish song from song. Each song was jammed with endless lyrics about life: nothing repetitive, but still a large collective of phrases illustrating the groups lyricism. For example, “Use words to cut you to pieces nothing sharper than my tongue” bar after bar. The beats have a similar sound throughout the songs, this is one of the major lows of the project for me. Aeon Primitive makes great music and we can only hope that the next becomes better than the last. A solid engineer is a must in creating a great project that has replay value and they display this, with slight edits if could be exceptional. This group/artist has talent no doubt, how they chose to share it with the world will determine their success.

Lyrics: 6 out of 10 The lyrics are undeniable. This album is full of rawness: an album packed with bars that a true hip-hop/rap fan would enjoy.
Beats: 2 out of 10 Each beat is like the next where it almost becomes boring, but then it got my attention by starting out soft and getting harder and louder as the song went on. It sounds like a drum set in the background that works its way into the song; it is a little overpowering.
Accessibility: 1 of 10 This album cannot be found on any other digital platform but Bandcamp and SoundCloud so it makes accessibility for the listener minimal.
