Gunz and Ginzuz

“One can’t come into the light without having fought through the dark”

Hip hop is a living breathing community that holds its traditions sacred. Some of our influences mere existence is a gift and presence that educates our younger generation. To excel in the community is to be appreciated by those around you, your colleagues and elders and new class. To be respected is to have given back to that community. To be an icon is to teach our newer generations how to exist in one of the most difficult industries there are. There is no mistakes about it, hip hop is a world that is all consuming and you either live to become part of the overall woven fabric or you are consumed by it and relegated to the pages edited out of the history books. In the state of New Mexico there are those who are using their presence to further the craft and community.

This specific project is produced by such an energy and because of that we have D. We$t’s “Gunz and Ginzuz”. This project was produced by a name that is easily recognizable in the region from his production to his artistry and battle rap notoriety. AngryMonk produced the project while D. Benjamin mixed and mastered the project. The process of creating a solid project cannot be understated and every person involved is key to creating something masterfully done. D.We$t certainly has a solid team creating his debut album for streaming platforms.

D.We$t is one of those artists who was respected enough to be pushed to the forefront. This young artist holds nothing back in his album. At 9 tracks to the album you could say that the project is thoughtful and is keenly aware that quality is placed over quantity. The artist places a high value on bars over bullshit. This era of hip hop can easily devolve into marketing gimmicks or reliance on popular trends. This artist is not one to participate in any of that, you can hear in the depth of the composition that the artist is at home with this type of beat and really brings a dose of reality to the project.

The project has a laid back west coast vibe and is reminiscent of the golden era of hip hop with some clear modern influences. It is not a project to be slept on. This artist is going to make waves and when you hear it you will understand. The bars are irreverent and punchy. This artist could easily be a battle rapper but instead chooses to shine on the mic. He is comfortable and confident on the microphone and really has a skill for cadence and imagery. Listen below and drop a comment or share, you can find his social media on the link below.
