The Step

“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step”

Lao Tzu

Making music is a daunting task. Most people don’t see the grueling work it takes. They don’t see the writing process, the constant editing, finding melodies, rhythm, hooks and working to make that overall solidly written song. Then the track moves into production, the composer has to find the right vibe, mood, samples, synth, drums, and it gets layered and more and more complex as it has to fit the writing, which can often times result in more rewriting of the original thought. After all of those layers are perfected the artist must move into recording which can sometimes be a home based studio with less than perfect microphones and rooms that are not sound proofed, other times it is a professional studio which can empty an artists pockets for that perfect sound quality. After the recording work is done the precious project is left in the hands of a sound engineer that may or may not know you and what your wants are and as subjective as mixing and mastering is the final project can either work wonderfully or be a let down. After all of this stress the artist is left to present this music to their friends, family, fans and complete strangers to be picked apart, listened to critically and receive feedback that can either encourage or completely break a heart.

The artist’s job is a contractual agreement with society to provide entertainment in a high quality form and for that we praise artists lavishly and allow them to enjoy the spoils of fame and fortune as long as this entertainment remains in our collective good graces. This exchange is something holy and must be protected at all costs. The artist remains in this liminal space of being criticized and praised. The musicians job is tough. To be this persona at all times and entertain is a unique calling and Ronja is that artist. She is a Norwegian born and raised. Her youthful energy is apparent and the Scandinavian sound is something to behold.

The track “Fun Tonight” has playful lyrics and ethereal production with light keys/synth work that really highlights the vocals from Ronja. Kalim’s production works and blends perfectly with Ronja’s writing and singing. Together the project creates a light club/festival sound that is chronicling a youthful experience of having fun out on the town. As a debut project Ronja and Kalim create a great finished product with label WCI Productions. So the journey for this artist begins with this first step and each step from here is etched eternally.
